Training Series

Truth Telling. Build Trust. Promoting Collaboration.

Three levels of engagement provide the path for system change and community partnership that facilitates criminal justice transformation.  Each training deepens the cultural connection between community and system (criminal justice and child welfare).  When a youth steps outside the boundaries of societal safety and causes harm to others, it takes a village with collective aspiration and shared commitment to rehabilitate young people and amend harms centering the victims in the process – to embrace innovative ways of problem solving to heal and mend lives and families, and build community.

To fully benefit from this work, attending all three trainings is highly recommended.

Transforming criminal justice with community engagement

Series I – Embracing Diversity, Building Community

OneNorth Peacemaking® Introductory Circle Training

Leaders who acknowledge the limitations of the criminal justice system understand that our current punitive approach falls short in providing the necessary services of healing and support to address the profound emotions stemming from unresolved grief and trauma.  Given these constraints, and recognizing there are gaps in providing public safety, the approach needs to pivot from a superficial process that doesn’t allow systems and communities to share power, to a process that cultivates a genuine relationship and builds trust.  This transformative process allows everyone to recognize the value they bring as partners, empowering both the community and the system to be actively involved in finding solutions for the problems we have all contributed to.  At The Peacemaking Institute, we are committed to fostering this inclusive and collaborative partnering toward healing and justice.

Series II – Creating an Environment for Vulnerability

OneNorth Peacemaking® Keeper Training

Leading a diverse group of people requires a certain skillset, the ability to adapt, and to meet people where they are.  How we show up matters, in order to engage everyone in the process and to create space where everyone can contribute and determine the outcome of what we can achieve together. Setting the tone and creating a safe environment and culture where everyone values relationship and trust, is essential to get everyone to a good place in a good way.

Being a “Keeper” and being a leader are the same.  These skills are complimentary to one another and will add value to your leadership competency and your ability to inspire and lead with others.

Series III – Sharing Power & Leading Together

OneNorth Peacemaking® Customized Co-Design Program Training

Our punitive system is designed with the intent to seek justice through punishment, with harsh sentencing and dehumanization.  It only serves one side of the truth and fails to encompass the whole truth of justice.  This imbalance reflects limitations and lacks mercy, healing, and compassion for those who have committed wrongs.  Utilizing the Peacemaking Circle as part of the Restorative Justice movement, creates a process, procedure, and curriculum that adds value to the punitive criminal justice system.  This approach aims to serve those who aspire to reconcile, make amends, and address accountability in a way that humanizes us all.
